Bobby and David..double trouble..
I am a huuugge Bobby Womack and David Ruffin fan to the tenth power..These two cats have got to be the most pure (if you will) vocalists i’ve ever heard.. Recently, I was doing some “digging” and ran into the “Pieces” album and discovered a tune entitled “Trust Your Heart” (dont think there is a re-issue on cd or mp3 on this back catalog release) . This song was the deal sealer for me. I must’ve flipped out when I read Mr. Ruffin’s name on background vocals. I’ve heard of game recognizing game but damn.. David and Bobby on a duet = Brilliant!
I completely agree with you. I listen to this song daily. Imagine if they had cut an entire album?
As much as I love this song, I think it had mega hit potential but fell short of its’ potential. The first 1:40 is amazing, then things slow down in the middle, it gets better near the end but by then it’s too late. I wish there was more Ruffin in this song. Do you agree?

I think the final mix came out solid. However, it sound likes a jam session that was eventually built into a song. In fact, on a certain part of the song Mr. Womack sings: “How can I love you, when you keep on running away” which was a verse he sang in his mid 70′s hit “Check It Out”. But yes, more Ruffin would have taken it on another level. Around this period, Producer Don Davis was working on Mr. Ruffin’s solo album on Warner Bros and i’m sure he and Bobby crossed paths (in addition to being fans of each other).
